Approximately 17 000 objections from ratepayers were received following the release of the 5th General Valuation Roll for the period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029.
The evaluation of objections is underway, and due to the volume of objections received that are being handled by the Municipal Valuer, the outcomes are anticipated to be finalised by the end of September 2025.
Each objection is formally logged and reviewed by the Municipal Valuer, who considers all concerns raised and assesses the supporting documentation provided by property owners.
After careful evaluation, a resolution is reached, and the objection outcome is issued. Where required, if a further appeal is lodged, the matter may proceed to the Valuation Appeal Board for an additional review.
While an objection is being processed, ratepayers should continue to pay their municipal account.
IMPORTANT: If the billed rates are believed to be excessively high due to a possible error, the ratepayer may make partial payments. It is crucial that the ratepayer notifies the billing department to formally flag their account; this helps prevent the account from being subjected to debt collection.
Once an objection is finalised, the billing department will adjust the account to reflect the correct rates according to the outcome.
